Barbara Crockett was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She developed her competitive drive through athletics at an early age. Her first passion was competitive swimming, which she began at age seven and continued through high school. While swimming built discipline and individual accountability, she discovered a deeper connection to team competition when she began playing softball around the age of twelve. She went on to play recreational, travel, and high school softball before continuing her career at the junior college level in Southern California. Her love for the game remains strong today as she continues to compete in adult softball leagues in both North Dakota and Canada. Her interest in pitching began during her travel ball years, when she was inspired by a uniquely talented teammate who could pitch effectively both right-handed and left-handed. Fascinated by the skill, strategy, and mental toughness required to control the game from the circle, she began teaching herself pitching mechanics and studying the movement patterns of successful pitchers. Although she did not receive formal pitching instruction, her self-driven learning allowed her to contribute as a pitcher during her junior college career.
After moving from Los Angeles to the rural community of Langdon, North Dakota, she gained a new appreciation for the importance of access to quality coaching and skill development opportunities. Nearly three years ago, she began coaching 10U recreational softball and quickly discovered a passion for helping young athletes grow. Watching players develop confidence, teamwork, and competitive drive became one of the most meaningful aspects of her coaching journey. She has since expanded her focus to mentoring developing pitchers, including local high school athletes, with an emphasis on building strong mechanical foundations. Her pitching philosophy centers on teaching efficient, safe mechanics that support long-term athlete health and performance. While velocity is an important part of competitive pitching, she believes command, body awareness, and mental confidence form the true foundation for success. By helping athletes understand how their bodies should move and encouraging consistent work habits, she believes speed and power can develop naturally over time. She is especially passionate about creating opportunities for pitchers in rural communities to receive knowledgeable instruction and reach their full potential.
Why does Barbara say that she chose Tincher Pitching?
Discovering Tincher Pitching Development Systems marked a significant turning point in her coaching development. After years of studying various approaches, she found clarity in the program’s simplified mechanical concepts and strong focus on athlete safety. Becoming part of the Tincher instructor community has strengthened both her technical understanding and her confidence as a coach. She is motivated by the opportunity to provide young athletes with the guidance and support she never had. Today, she continues to grow as both a player and instructor, driven by a deep love for softball and a commitment to helping athletes build confidence, resilience, and leadership. Her goal is to help pitchers develop strong foundations, compete with purpose, and carry the lessons of the game far beyond the field.
Here is what Denny says about Barbara-
She is naturally inquisitive and is passionate about learning. Barbara is never satisfied with learning how something works, but wants to know why, and to learn how everything fits together.
She truly cares about students and constantly brings us questions on ways she can do a better job. This drive to be the best she can be sparks the same determination in her students.
